Family breeding of barbet
of Black Amaretto

By the way...
PEOPLE SPEAK DUTCH WE SPEAK ENGLISH

We are Anne-Sophie and Alain! Physiotherapist and former teacher, our two professional activities are resolutely focused on others…..

In addition, being lovers of nature and long, quiet walks, we wanted a rustic and “sporty” canine companion. This is how, somewhat by chance, we came across during our research on the barbet. It was love at first sight, but we were astonished to see that it was almost disappearing....

“The latter in fact began to become rare during the 18th century, but it was at the end of the 19th century that it was, so to speak, wiped off the map...Waterfowl hunting was in decline, English dogs were becoming increasingly rare. fashion and the poodle, more elegant and easier to maintain, almost put an end to the era of the barbet…. »

Because to be good breeders, we never know enough, our training:

When you are passionate, you give the best of yourself, and it is only by giving yourself without counting that you achieve results. But to do this, you must also give yourself the means to succeed!

This is the reason why, in 2010, we both followed the SCC training to obtain the Certificate of Ability to Livestock (decree of 10/23/2000. Order of July 20, 2001), and participated in 2011 at the Symposium organized in Ghent, Belgium, by the SRSH on the theme of inbreeding and hereditary diseases in dogs.

In the field of breeding, and even more so, in a breed with small numbers like the barbet, it is advisable to know a minimum of genetics to avoid the traps set by the phenotypes, and above all to contribute to the development healthy subjects.

Why Di Amaretto Nero?

We are often asked where this funny name comes from. In fact, it means “black Amaretto”, in homage to our male Amaretto Roméo, at the origin of our breeding. After all, it's thanks to him that we got here.

You probably know that in the world of dogs, it's a bit like in the world of men: we don't always do what we want... However, among purebred dogs, in France, each year has ITS letter, and therefore a dog born in 2005 had to have a name starting with “A”. But, for us, and especially for Anne Sophie, year in “a” or not, he had to be called Romeo.

How to resolve this dilemma? It was then that an angel appeared to us to help us in this difficult choice: the waiter of the Italian restaurant where we used to go. That evening, we were celebrating the new arrival in the family and we were racking our brains over this name thing. The waiter brings us the bill, and adds: “Would you like to take a little something for the house?” Limoncello or amaretto?

We had finally found THE solution, it would be called: Amaretto Roméo de la Baie des Landes. A splendid name, a little aristocratic, but which suits him so elegantly.
